Thammarat

I write and perform music under the artist name Thammarat. 

Across my discography, you’ll find a mix of musical theater-inspired pop, introspective lyrics, explosive endings, and plenty of plot twists. I encourage fans of LGBTQ+ romance novels, the Barbie Cinematic Universe, and narrative songwriting to give my music a listen. I've received vocal instruction from Interlochen Center for the Arts, Berklee College of Music, Mannes School of Music / The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and various private studios around the DMV. My training includes opera, pop, musical theater, and R&B, and I've performed with ensembles at The White House, Library of Congress, The Kennedy Center, and more. In 2019, I was a featured soloist and speaker at the plaque dedication ceremony honoring Matthew Shepard. 

In May 2025, I graduated with departmental honors from The New School, with a BA in Contemporary Music. My areas of focus included LGBTQ+, Asian American, and African American music studies, socially engaged songwriting, vocal performance, teaching, and musical activism. 

As an artist I’m interested in challenging popular songwriting conventions, subverting musicultural narratives around race and gender, and using my voice and lived experiences as a prism for empowerment and self-enquiry. You can learn more here.
